At some point during the summer, our children attended a community event where they had to opportunity to make clay pots. For well over six months now, we haven't made time to take them to a kiln and have them fired.
That all changed today.
A few months ago I did some research and determined that all I needed was sustained heat in the range of 500-600 degrees. I knew my backyard BBQ grill was capable of that but I didn't want to waste my propane.
Today I had the thought hat my kitchen oven was probably up to the task. It set it to "clean" mode because I figured it would get hotter than the controls would let me do manually.
Three hours later we had baked clay. It seems to have worked wonderfully.
