Band of Brothers is the first non-fictional depiction of WWII events I have read. The story blew me away. I finished watching the 10-hour mini series (based on the book) a few weeks ago and wanted to see which parts of the movie were dramatic.
There weren't many. A few events were rearranged, I suppose, to make the movie flow better, but there was not much embellishment.
Ambrose, in his typical way, tells the story matter-of-factly. He quotes the participants at length, letting them tell much of the story. I like it when documentarian authors do this--it avoids the problems introduced by interpreting the events.
Overall, a very good book for those interested in WWII combat.
