Say Your Prayers

As a Christian, I believe in the power of faith and prayer. As a father, I have taught my children to pray. Observing the prayers of my children has helped me to see the world as they see it.

About three months ago, one of my sons decided that he was very afraid that the house would burn down. Every night when he prayed, he asked God to keep him safe from fires.

Then he learned about earthquakes...

And tornadoes...

Last week the list was this: fires, earthquakes, tornadoes, floods, tsunamis, and--get ready for this--sand storms.

It was cute at first, but I decided then it was enough. I explained that it would just be simpler if they asked God to just keep them safe. I could tell they were relieved that they no longer had to remember every possible natural disaster to include in their prayers.
